Luxury Print Rules: Minimum Line Thickness for Foil Stamping
Adding metallic foil stamping to your business cards or wedding invitations creates a stunning, high-end look. However, foil is not liquid ink; it is a physical sheet of metal pressed onto paper. Because of this, highly intricate designs with microscopic text often fail during the manufacturing process.
The Rules of Adhesion
The heated metal die needs enough surface area to bond the foil to the paper stock securely.
- The Standard Requirement: All lines in your design must be at least 0.5pt thick to hold the foil properly.
- The Risk: Anything thinner than 0.5pt will cause the metal foil to flake off the paper, leaving your text unreadable and your logo looking distressed and broken.

You do not have to abandon your complex logo to get a luxury finish. As your printing and promotional experts, we review every file meticulously. If your logo is highly detailed, our pre-press team will strategically thicken the lines slightly to ensure the foil adheres perfectly without ruining the aesthetic of your design.
